Private aviation travelers will need a valid health visa and negative COVID-19 test from an accredited lab
It may be better in the Bahamas, but only if you fly by private jet. As of midnight tonight, July 22, international commercial flights are not permitted to enter the chain of islands. Exceptions for commercial airlines are the United Kingdom, European Union, and Canada.
However, private international flights and charter from all countries continue to be permitted, according to a message from Hon. Dr. Hubert Minnis, the nation’s prime minister.
“Due to a continued increase in COVID-19 cases in the United States, as well as an uptick in cases in The Bahamas, the country has made the difficult decision to close borders to commercial flights and vessels from the U.S. effective Wednesday, July 22 at midnight. Outgoing flights will be permitted to accommodate any current U.S. visitors scheduled to return,” according to an email from today from the Ministry of Tourism.
It continues, “Private flights and charters from the United States, as well as pleasure craft and yachts will be permitted throughout the Island Of The Bahamas – with the exception of Freeport.
All visitors and returning Bahamians and residents will require a negative RT-PCR COVID-19 test result from an accredited lab. The test must have been taken no more than 10 days before the travel date.
Requirements for Bahamas private jet visitors
Travelers who do not complete a Health Visa and present a valid COVID-19 test with a negative result will be denied entry. Travelers who show symptoms of COVID-19 may be taken for further testing.
A $200 fine or a penalty of one-month imprisonment or both will be enforced against visitors or residents not wearing face masks in areas where they are required.
Currently, masks are required when traveling in a taxi, standing in a line, and visiting attractions. Mask requirements include checking into or out of your hotel, and until you are seated at restaurant.
You also must wear a mask when entering or exiting the beaches, although not once you are on the beach. Masks are required before and after exercise. You need to have a mask visible while exercising.
Beach gatherings are limited to five people or less with mandatory social distancing. Visitors also must stay onsite at their hotel or home from 10 pm to 5 am daily.
Children under age 10 are not required to take a test.
