Amref Flying Doctors, a supplier of fixed-wing air ambulances throughout Africa, Europe, and Asia located at Wilson Airport in Nairobi, Kenya, has received a pre-owned Cessna Citation Sovereign from Textron Aviation.
Amref Flying Doctors chose Textron Aviation‘s ProParts program to cover airframe systems and avionics components for line, planned, and unscheduled maintenance in addition to the aircraft purchase. The midsize twinjet will join the organization’s fleet, which includes a Citation XLS and Bravo and a Beechcraft King Air B200 in September at its headquarters in Nairobi, Africa.
Mike Black, Amref Flying Doctors’ Chief Operating Officer, reported, “The Cessna Sovereign was an easy choice for Amref Flying Doctors when looking to expand our aviation capability and capacity, so as to support our international, long-distance air ambulance operations.”
At the Citation Service Center in Orlando, Florida, the Sovereign’s cabin was reconfigured for air ambulance operations, including the installation of a multiple stretcher system. According to Textron Aviation Special Missions Sales Vice President Bob Gibbs, the new Sovereign’s large cabin enables a multiple-stretcher system as well as an essential onboard crew. Patients are evacuated from isolated bush airstrips, repatriated to other continents, and other services are provided by the organization’s aircraft.
Apart from this, Citation Bravo, Beechcraft King Air, Citation XLS, Pilatus PC-12, and Eurocopter are also some aircraft operated by AMREF Flying Doctors.
