US Air Force Cancels All Airshow Support, Community Outreach Until May 15th – AirshowStuff

Must read

Following a wave of airshow cancellations in the face of the COVID-19/coronavirus pandemic, the US Air Force has announced that they are suspending all public outreach activities such as airshow support until at least May 15th. The USAF Thunderbirds and other single-ship demonstration teams will not travel during this time.

This is not shocking news, given the massive upheaval in airshows and large public events across the country. We will look to specific airshows to announce their status, but it seems likely that nearly all events during this time frame will be postponed or canceled. Please stay tuned here on the blog and in our forums as we continue to post updates on this rapidly evolving situation! We will also be updating our airshow calendar as changes or cancellations are confirmed.

Full Air Force statement, as provided by the International Council of Air Shows:

“The Air Force is committed to upholding the complete trust and confidence of Americans and our community engagement is the key to those connections. However, due to the uncertainty regarding COVID-19 and to protect our Airmen, their families and the communities that support us, the Department of the Air Force is suspending all outreach activities and support to community events through May 15.  This includes, but is not limited to, on-base and civilian sponsored air shows, band performances and community engagements and meetings (speaking engagements, community meetings on installations, base tours, Pentagon visits, etc.).  We will continue to support funeral flyovers on a case-by-case basis.  The Air Force will continuously evaluate the situation and provide updates as needed.

“Please contact the Air Force Aerial Events Office at 703-695-9664 for Aerial Events questions, and your local installation public affairs office for questions regarding local activities.”
