You can add the Abbotsford International Airshow to the long list of B.C. summer events cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Jim Reith, president of the Abbotsford International Airshow Society, said organizers had been hoping the spread of COVID-19 would be minimized and the event, scheduled for Aug. 7-9, would be able to proceed.

“We were hopeful that the Airshow could be something positive for the community to look forward to, but it has become clear that preventative health measures such as social distancing are going to continue to be necessary beyond our scheduled event dates,” said Reith.

The event, Canada’s largest air show, attracts thousands of people to watch flight demonstrations from Canadian, American and international participants.

Ticket holders will have their tickets honoured at the 2021 event or they can request a refund.

Other major B.C. events cancelled due to COVID-19 include the Pacific National Exhibition, Vancouver Folk Festival, Celebration of Light, and the Vancouver Pride Festival.
